All of the pieces have been put (read: forced) together and now I only need to apply the decals. To my delight, the exhaust wasn't the most frustrating piece to fit. I think that prize goes to the rear suspension elements and roll bars. Those bastards.

I seriously wish I had the skills to build that. Or any model for that matter. How can I start?

Damn. I need to finish mine. I've got the body painted and the engine done.

Pick up a Level 2 model kit (usually just glue and a tiny bit of paint) and an exacto-knife. For your first models concentrate on cleanly cutting the pieces out and assembling and waiting for glue to dry. Once you get familiar with models you can try for the paint-intensive ones. Also you need tons of patience - rushing anything will no-doubt mess it up.

Skills nothing. There are still seams all over this model and very sloppy paint work.
Do what Party-vi said. Just pick up some 1/24 road car so you don't have too much detail and paint work. That's how I got into it.

Your RA272 or your model? I'd feel super embarrassed if you were also building a 272 and you actually took time and care with yours.
I'm no modeler.

My RA272 model

I promise I won't post any pictures when I'm done, but I can't say the same for the next model I'm doing.

Ridiculously cool.

Thanks for the advice! I was looking at some Tamiya models on Amazon, they look great. How do I know the skill level if the listing doesn't show it? Thanks!!

Thanks.
Pre-aero F-1 cars are works of art anyway.

Oh please, don't let my insecurities stop you.
It'd be nice to have some well-done models in here once in a while.

You should look at Revell models unless there's a particular car you really want from Tamiya - Revell is usually less expensive. If you got to Tamiya's website you can usually tell, or if you see the box in person (Wal-Mart, Target, local hobby shop) you can inspect the box in person. I think the Tamiya models list the paints necessary.

I mean, it's not well done. I'll post the Alpine I did if I can find the damn thing.

Thanks. It was a fun watch.

Who makes this model? It looks awesome!

Tamiya. It's only about $37 on their site.
Although you could probably find it for less elsewhere.

I'll check it out, thanks!
